Expensly ("we," "us," or "our") is a personal finance and budgeting app. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices — in plain language.
When you create an account, your expenses, budgets, profile, and settings sync to your account through our cloud provider (Supabase). A local copy is also stored on your device for speed and offline access.
Demo mode uses sample data on your device only. It does not create an account or sync data to the cloud.
When you sign up or sign in, we collect your email address for authentication and account recovery, and a user identifier assigned by our authentication provider.
We store the information you enter or that is generated by the app, including: expenses (amount, date, category, merchant, notes, currency), budgets and category limits, profile information, app settings, and merchant category rules. This data is synced to Supabase when you are signed in. Receipt photos are stored on-device only.
With an active Plus subscription, you may choose to connect bank accounts or credit cards through Lean Technologies, a regulated open-banking provider. This connection is entirely optional and requires your explicit consent.
What we access (read-only): account and transaction data needed to import spending into Expensly, masked account identifiers (e.g. last digits), bank name and connection metadata, and sync timestamps.
What we do not store: your bank login password or full card number. You can disconnect at any time from the Accounts tab in the app. Bank linking is available for supported banks in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, as enabled by Lean Technologies and participating institutions.
When you sync, we store: transaction amount, date, and currency; merchant or description text from your bank; category we assign; and technical sync data. We use this data only to provide expense tracking, budgeting, and related app features.
In the UAE, Plus subscribers may initiate credit card bill payments from a linked debit/checking account to a linked credit card through Lean's payment APIs. Each payment is authorized by you in your bank's secure flow. We store payment intent references and status only. We do not store your full card number or online banking password.
Plus features such as Bank SMS auto-log and Shopping Alert use Apple Shortcuts that you configure on your device. Expensly does not read your SMS messages directly. Shortcuts pass parsed data to the app only when you set up and run those automations.
We use your information to: provide, maintain, and improve Expensly; sync your data across sessions and devices; import and categorize bank transactions (Plus, when connected); facilitate optional card bill payments you initiate (UAE, Plus); and respond to support requests.
We do not: sell your personal data, use your expense data for advertising, use your data for cross-app tracking, or read your bank SMS directly.
We do not sell personal information to third parties.
Account and synced app data are kept while your account is active. Bank connection metadata and imported transactions are kept while connected or until you delete your account. When you delete your account, we remove your sign-in credentials, cloud backup, linked bank metadata, and associated imported data, subject to reasonable backup retention periods.
You can permanently delete your account in the app: Settings → Delete account. This removes your account, cloud data, and linked bank connection records. Apple subscriptions must be cancelled separately in Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.
We use industry-standard measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and access controls through our cloud provider. If you enable Face ID or passcode lock, access to the app is protected by your device.
Depending on your location (including UAE PDPL and similar laws), you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your data, withdraw consent for optional processing (e.g. disconnect your bank), or lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. To exercise these rights, contact support@expensly.app.

Expensly is a personal expense tracker and budgeting app for users in the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.
Free features: Manual expense entry and editing, category budgets and spending forecasts, month history and PDF export, Face ID / passcode app lock, Home Screen shortcuts, paste-from-email import, and cloud backup and sync when signed in.
Expensly Plus adds: automatic bank and card sync via open banking (read-only transaction import), Bank SMS auto-log and Shopping Alert via iOS Shortcuts, and UAE credit card bill pay where supported.
Expensly provides informational tools only. Budget suggestions, forecasts, and spending categories are for personal organization. We do not provide investment, tax, accounting, or legal advice. Expensly is not a bank, payment institution, or licensed financial adviser.
You must provide accurate information when creating an account. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity under your account. You may delete your account at any time in Settings → Delete account.
Plus is billed through your Apple ID as an auto-renewing subscription. A 7-day free trial may be offered to eligible new subscribers. Subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period via iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions. Deleting your Expensly account does not cancel your Apple subscription. Subscription product IDs: plus_monthly, plus_annual.
Bank connection is provided through Lean Technologies and participating banks. By connecting an account, you authorize Lean and your bank to share account and transaction data with Expensly for read-only import. Your use of banking services is also subject to your bank's terms and conditions.
Where available, card bill pay lets you initiate a transfer from a linked debit account to a linked credit card. You must authorize each payment in your bank's secure flow. We are not responsible for bank delays, rejections, outages, or fees charged by your bank.
Plus automation features rely on Apple Shortcuts that you install and configure. You control what data Shortcuts reads and sends to Expensly. We are not responsible for shortcuts you create or third-party actions in the Shortcuts app.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND. We do not warrant that bank data will always be accurate, complete, or timely, or that the App will be uninterrupted or error-free.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM, OR (B) USD 100, EXCEPT WHERE LIABILITY CANNOT BE LIMITED BY LAW.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United Arab Emirates. Disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the UAE, unless applicable law requires a different forum.
